So first off, I’ve been sick for the past few days and missed another Mommy Musing Monday post, but I’ll make up for that in the new year. Sometimes life and ill health happens.
Like most New Year’s Eves, it’s time for the usual reflection on the past year. I’m not one for setting resolutions exactly. I like to think of them as annual goals. Not full on SMART goals, but things I can realistically try to achieve within the 12 months ahead.
So lets review last year’s goals…
It can be said with confidence that 2013 was aa big year for Matt and I. With lots of ups and downs, a big up was definitely without a doubt the birth of our daughter, Miranda (AKA Missy Moo). I could dedicate an entire blog post just to her and the impact she’s had on our lives, but perhaps I’ll save that for another day since I already have a lot to cover.
Blog more – at least twice a month – Oh yeah baby!
Not only did I manage to blog more, but I also gave my blog a much needed facelift. It has a cleaner, crisper look and it is also a responsive design meaning it will change it’s look to best suit the viewer’s needs (i.e. mobile, desktop, etc.)
I think the greatest achievement with my blogging is that I was able to find some common topics to cover and do it consistently. Jumping on the #ThrowbackThursday bandwagon helped, but starting my weekly Mommy Musing Monday posts was key. I’ve really enjoyed writing them and have received lots of positive responses and encouragement; thanks for all of you who come to my little corner of the Internet to see what I have to share.
Read my social media book list from 2012 (and hopefully more) – FAIL!
Since I didn’t manage to take care of these books in 2012, I was really hoping to tackle them in 2013. But yeah… that didn’t happen. I honestly found myself more interested in fiction for the most part. Once I’m back at work, I may try to tackle them during lunch breaks.
And for that matter, read MORE – Success!
Achievement unlocked! I did manage to read more in general this year. I think what really helped was having my Kobo app on my smart phone so that I could easily flick through a novel no matter what time it was or where I found myself. I also listened to my eldest niece’s suggestions and read the Hunger Games Trilogy as well as the first set of Percy Jackson series. Both were easy, but really fun reads.
Run the Tely 10 again – Major success!
I can’t help but be really proud of my Tely 10 run this year. Not only did I run again, but I was able to beat last year’s time by over three minutes! I did actually train this year (which probably helped a lot) and it was great to have such an nice summer so that I could pop Missy Moo into our jogging stroller and then run on the trails near our house. I also enjoyed using the Run Keeper app on my phone which helped me to keep track of my pace, distance and time.
This year’s success has only inspired me to reach much higher next year (details to come).
Unpack boxes from Toronto – Sort of…
As I referenced to last year, we moved from Toronto and back to The Rock in September 2010. And in my defence it was a somewhat fast move and we had to pack during a really busy few weeks; it was chaotic to say the least.
While I did manage to get through a lot of our stuff, there are still a number of boxes that need our attention. Some of those boxes that were packed mere minutes before the movers arrived and are lacking any order or logic as to what’s in them.
We’ve been in our current home for almost three years. I think it’s about time we get through the last of those boxes! Maybe in 2014?
Sort/gut childhood boxes – NOPE! EPIC FAIL
Let’s just not even talk about this one… there was a whole lot of epic fail on my part. I think I actually made things worse because I boxed up all of my non-maternity clothes and now I need to dig them all out because I’m just about back to my pre-pregnancy weight (a good thing, but there’s a lot of clothing purging ahead methinks).
All the same, I’m going to give myself a break on this one because taking care of a baby (a very active one at that) does actually take up a lot of time! So there’s always next year, right?
Edit and sort photos – FAIL
This simple sounding, yet rather mammoth goal was no where near met. But it was primarily due to the lack of technology available. My old Acer laptop that I’ve had since 2007 is on it’s last legs and in now way was able to do what’s needed to really reorganize and purge my many, many photos that are stored on multiple drives.
And while I started doing a “photo a day” in January, it didn’t last. Maybe some other year I’ll give it a while, but not in 2014. I have more important things I want to focus on.
So there were mixed results for 2013, but overall I’m going to consider it a pretty darn good year.
What about you? Did you have any resolutions or goals you tried to tackle in 2013? How did you do?
