Photo Upload Test

Posted on January 21, 2012 Posted in 2012, blog, GSE 2012, iPad2, Social Media, Test .

I’m currently looking at options for blog updates and photo uploading while I’m in Taiwan and Japan in March and April.

I have to say that I’m not impressed with the WordPress iPad app. It doesn’t have a lot of options or features, and it isn’t very intuitive.

I’m pretty pleased with the Blogsy app and I’m writing this post on the iPad using the touchscreen keyboard. I’ll have a keyboard case to use as well, but short amounts of typing on the touchpad isn’t too bad.

2012 Goal Update

Posted on January 19, 2012 Posted in 2012, GSE 2012, Twitter .

Alright, so it’s time for an update regarding my previous post with goals for 2012.

I’m testing out my new iPad keyboard/case and am using the Blogsy app to do this update. Ideally, I want to bring just my iPad to Taiwan and Japan instead of dragging a laptop. But I really don’t think my sanity will survive six weeks of using a touch screen keyboard, so I’ve been exploring options.

The Quxii keyboard is pretty good, but I’m not thrilled that it seems to disconnect from the bluetooth connection easily if not in constant use.

I’m also finding Blogsy to be very limiting in what it can do, but one feature I’m liking is that I can connect my Flickr account (http://www.flickr.com/vmiddleton) and drag and drop photos with easy.

I do really miss being able to embed website addresses and have them tagged to words instead of geing all http://www…, but for now this will have to do.

Back to the goals for 2012…

MMXII

Posted on January 4, 2012 Posted in 2012, blog, books, Facebook .

It’s that time of year again. As I mentioned in my last update, you should be feeling guilty about what wasn’t accomplished in the previous year. But with the first week of January well underway, there’s an opportunity for new beginnings. Fresh starts! Expect that January is simply a month that ends in Y… does it really have to be the only time of year to set goals, ridicule our failures and set unreasonable expectations?!

So in proper hypocritical fashion, I’ve decided to give myself a few goals (read: resolutions… I just don’t want to call them resolutions). Goals can be measurable and there will be clear evidence as to whether or not I meet these goals.

Add a little carpe diem to your 2012

Posted on December 31, 2011 Posted in Uncategorized .

A lot has happened over the past 12-14 months for Matt  and I. We considered including a little newsletter/update in our holiday cards this year, but didn’t really have time to make that happen. As a compromise, we wanted to do a quick video update that could be shared with friends and family (especially those who live in different parts of the country and beyond). But again, there’s been a lack of time to make such an endeavour happen.

Instead, I’m here to encourage everyone not feel pressured into setting goals that are driven by guilt trips. It drives me nuts that the bulk of advertising right now focuses around weight loss, kicking bad habits like smoking, and dating (did you know that eHarmony is free this weekend? After the 50th time I saw their ad, I think I got the memo…).

The Right Words

Posted on November 25, 2011 Posted in 2011, Family, Friends, NL, St. John's, Toronto .
On Dec. 3 I will have the joy of seeing Sarah Slean in concert at The Majestic in St. John’s. It’s been almost two years since I last saw Sarah in concert and I can’t wait to see her again.

She is by far my most favourite singer and I absolutely adore her. She has an amazing voice, an enchanting stage presence and leaves you feeling loved after every show.

I’ve had her latest CD Land & Sea for a couple of weeks now and am thoroughly enjoying both albums. But this past weekend, The Right Words from the Sea album was brought to my attention. It’s a song that can touch anyone and since last weekend, the song and its lyrics have been on my mind.
