And May the fourth also be with you

Posted on May 4, 2014 Posted in 2014, Birthday, Family, Meme, Sci fi .

I mentioned last year that today is now known as Star Wars Day because it’s the fourth day of May, so anyone with even an ounce of geekiness or sci-fi love for Star Wars has likely been wishing people “May the fourth be with you.”

Get it? May the fourth… May the FORCE be with you?

But before it was Star Wars Day, this day has otherwise been significant to me because it’s my Dad’s birthday!

So happy birthday Dad! And Missy Moo is hoping her poppy has had a great day. It was wonderful to celebrate with you this evening.

Missy Moo really didn’t want to sit still… big surprise.

After a few attempts, I managed to get one where she’s in focus.

Happy Captain Picard Day!

It seems more than fitting that Matt’s first Father’s Day also falls on Captain Picard Day.

Anyone who knows my husband is aware of his encyclopedic memory when it comes to all things Star Trek (and that’s including all of the various series within the franchise). He can watch the opening scene for any episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation and within seconds, can tell you in detail what the episode is about (and often knows the actual title of the episode!).

Oh ya know, just hanging out with my new Captain Picard doll. #StarTrek

Happy Captain Picard Day!*

Now he’s not alone in his love of Star Trek. I too am a huge fan. In fact, we’ve had more than one heated debate about all sorts of obscure topics from Worf’s Klingon baggage, Riker’s beard, Geordi’s failed love life, to potential courses Captain Picard would teach at Starfleet Academy.

Yes… we’re nerdy and proud.

So today we will be drinking – Tea. Earl Grey. Hot. And no doubt discussing the many great traits of what we both consider to be the best Starfleet captain.

UPDATE: Here’s the card and book that Missy Moo gave her daddy for Captain Picard day.

*If you’re curious about the knitted Captain Picard doll that Missy Moo is holding, it was made by my very talented co-worker Moya. She made this for our daughter and didn’t even use a pattern!

May the fourth be with you

It’s after 12 a.m., but I don’t care. In case you live under a rock and rarely peruse the Internet, today (technically May 4 is now yesterday, but I’m still awake) is Star Wars Day (cause you know… May the fourth be with you…).

A few years ago it was referred to as unofficial Star Wars Day. Apparently that changed recently.

Hope you had a great day! We did!

*Insert witty Valentine’s commentary*

Posted on February 14, 2012 Posted in 2012, Comics/Images, MR, NL, Sci fi, Silly, Toronto .

Valentine’s Day is upon us and I’m using today as an excuse to bring up a couple of things.

First off, I have to show you what is probably the most geek-tastic and epic gift that Matt has given me for Valentine’s to date…

Jedi Geekery

Posted on July 9, 2011 Posted in 2011, Sci fi .

Jedi at work A sure sign of true love: a couple that can geek out together sci-fi style.

While Halloween isn’t exactly around the corner, I recently came across this photo and it seemed appropriate to post. It was this time last year that Matt was talking about ordering one of the Force FX lightsabers. My only request was that if he was going to get one, that it only made sense for me to also own one. I mean how silly would it have looked if he was running around all on his own with a lightsaber and no one to mock battle with?

It was that purchase that put us on the road to our Halloween costumes for 2010. I’m fairly certain we’ll use them again. Not sure if I’ll wear mine again this year or save it for another year. But either way, our lightsabers are on display year round in our games room.

What’s you favourite costume? Was it something that was for Halloween or another occasion? Maybe there’s something you wore as a child that you’ll never forget? Here in Newfoundland, I remember having to wear my winter jacket over my Halloween costume more than once due to a sudden cold snap or unexpected snow. Ha ha.

Note: this post is also in honour of my niece who was Darth Vader for Halloween last year. I couldn’t have been prouder to hear how much she loves Star Wars. Now I just need to get both of my nieces into other sci fi goodies like Star Trek and Stargate.

I want to read about…

Been there, done that
