Social Media Crossover

Posted on May 6, 2013 Posted in 2013, blog, Facebook, Social Media, Twitter .

Early Sunday morning (although for me it still felt like Saturday because I had yet to go to bed and it wasn’t long after midnight…), I shared a photo that I took on Saturday of Matt and Miranda in honour of Star Wars Day (AKA May the Fourth be with you).

I managed to get picked up by NL Blogger’s Daily through a tweet I posted sharing the blog post. This is generated through paper.li and it’s a way you can create your own online newspaper. Once you set up some parameters, you can can automatically find, publish and promote articles, photos and videos from across the web. It’s an interesting concept and I’ve seen some various people using including some parenting bloggers and other industry-specific social media accounts (primarily on Twitter).

NL Blogger's Daily - May 5 2013 vm

NL Blogger’s Daily is something that Stephen Harris (@seliharris) of @NLBlogRoll has and I tend to give I quick look now and then since it’s a great list of local blogger updates.

It’s always interesting to see when social media channels crossover. I think it helps to keep conversations going. It adds an element of fluidity to the whole thing. Maybe you see a news article on Twitter and there’s a hashtag you can follow to read what others are saying. Then you pop over to Facebook and see other people talking, commenting and sharing information about the same topic. The conversation continues.

How often will I recall a piece of news I read, yet I’ll have difficulty remembering if it was originally read either in a news alert, an post on Facebook, a tweet on Twitter or on a website or online news service.

Sometimes this can cause repetition and a lot of noise. And often it can cause certain news stories to seem more important because people active in social media are either sharing the information at a higher frequency, or you just notice it more because you’re not hearing about the other stuff that’s floating around in the news world.

But don’t worry, I won’t let this go to my head. I’ll try to stay grounded and humble…

May the fourth be with you

It’s after 12 a.m., but I don’t care. In case you live under a rock and rarely peruse the Internet, today (technically May 4 is now yesterday, but I’m still awake) is Star Wars Day (cause you know… May the fourth be with you…).

A few years ago it was referred to as unofficial Star Wars Day. Apparently that changed recently.

Hope you had a great day! We did!

Banana Maple Muffins

Posted on April 14, 2013 Posted in 2013, Family, Food .

On Wednesday, my sister-in-law (Heather), brother-in-law (Colin) and youngest niece (Emily) returned to Ontario after a really great week-long visit. It was great to see them and to have the six of us together for the first time under one roof.

Before leaving, they gave us a
hostess gift that included some maple syrup. Now anyone who knows my husband is aware of how much he loves maple syrup and he's a bit of a snob when it comes to cooking or baking with the liquid gold.

Heather noticed that we have a decent stash of maple syrup, but it's mainly because we can't get anything that's local and if we ever do run out of our Ontario staff, we'll have to resort to purchasing it from Costco or another major commercial retailer… Which just makes us shudder.

But we really do have a lot. We have medium grade and also what some would call “number three” (also known as dark maple syrup or grade B).

I decided to start looking up some baking recipes. I may look into other recipes, but for now, here are the details of a muffin recipe I followed this mornings.

Spaghdogs? Hotspaghs? Hybrid food FTW!

Posted on April 9, 2013 Posted in 2012, 2013, Facebook, Food .

I originally started writing this post in February 2012. I think it was before I was big into Pinterest and finding lots of unique food ideas. I can’t remember if it was Claire or Abby who inspired me to try these crazy things based on a photo they shared on Facebook… but it was a lot of fun!

Precooked

Prepped and ready to be boiled!
