Mommy Musing Monday – faceplant baby

Posted on September 9, 2013 Posted in 2013, Baby, Miranda, Musing Monday, Parenting .

I originally had a completely different post in mind for today. It’s not fully written and is in fact in a notebook of mine. But life happens in the form of mommy duties and family emergencies… so I’ll save the other topic for another day.

I’ve mentioned to a few friends and family and Missy Moo has started sleeping on her side and also her stomach. This child is definitely keeping me on my toes though because when she sleeps with her face almost completely down, I’m constantly checking to make sure she’s still breathing!!

Mommy Musing Monday – technologically motivated

Posted on September 2, 2013 Posted in 2013, Baby, iPad2, Musing Monday, Parenting, technology .

I had a Mother of the Year moment last week. Ha ha, read on…

Missy Moo is this close to crawling. So very close, but she’s not quite there yet.

She manages to pull and drag herself and she can even change directions by moving herself in a circle while lying on her stomach. And she’s not just trying to do an army crawl, she’s also getting up on her knees and pushing herself up on her arms so that she can semi sit up and wiggle back and forth.

Like most babies, she’s a nosey little fart at times and wants to grab everything that’s not within her grasp. She’s even starting to go for cell phones when Matt or I have her in our arms and a phone is nearby.

So last week I decided to conduct an experiment that involved my daughter and an iPad. The results were hilarious.

She’s clearly her mother’s child. Not only does she love technology, but she also gets easily distracted too! But you would get distracted too if a colourful quilt was all up in your business while you were struggling to drag yourself towards something shiny.

I suspect that she’ll be crawling very soon and then we’ll be in trouble! Luckily we already have the baby gate installed because our friends were visiting last week with their 13 month old. And also thanks to their little guy, our kitchen is on the way to being fairly baby proof (although we have a few things left to do, but that’ll come in time).

#ThrowbackThursday – Family Matters

Posted on August 29, 2013 Posted in 2013, Family, Nostalgic, Throwback Thursday .

On Sunday, my cousin Megan is getting married. We’re all pretty excited because on my mom’s side of the family, there are only six “kids/grandchildren” amongst my mom and her two sisters. My grandparents are very proud of all of us and seeing a granddaughter get married is definitely on the list of proud moments for a grandparent.

I didn’t realize it until today, but the last time we were all at a wedding was mine six years ago! I also realize that I don’t have a photo with my cousins from my wedding, but I am happy to say that we started taking a group photo with my grandparents the following year at Christmas (and I’ll share that some other day perhaps).

I think we're celebrating Nanny's birthday. L-R: Me, Nanny, Laura, Adam, Steven, Megan. Standing in the back: Keith.

I think we’re celebrating Nanny’s birthday in 1989.

Growing up, the six of us were primarily in the St. John’s surrounding area and therefore saw each other on a regular basis (and very frequently in the spring when we have a lot of birthdays in the span of about three weeks… I’m not one to get tired of birthday cake but you probably would have if you were hanging out with us back then since everyone usually had their own cake!

Yes, we’re all growing up and because I’m the second eldest of the cousins (my brother being the most senior), I’m really feeling that my years are starting to stack up. My little cousins aren’t so little anymore. It’s really quite shocking at times. But I’m really proud of them all.

Unfortunately not all of us will be here for the wedding on Sunday, but it doesn’t mean we won’t all be together in spirit.

That’s how our family rolls – no matter where you are or how far away it may seem, you’re still with us during the important times and we’re always thinking of you. :)

#ThrowbackThursday – #Stonehenge

Posted on August 22, 2013 Posted in 2013, Friends, Girl Guides, Meme, Nostalgic, Throwback Thursday .

As I mentioned last week, it was 14 years ago that I went on a Guiding trip that allowed me to stay at two of the four World Centres of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS).

Even though we were in the United Kingdom (and primarily London) for barely three days, we did manage to get a lot done. We saw the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace (which by the way was amazing to see up close and behind the gates!), we saw the musical Rent!, ran around London seeing lots of regular touristy things like London Bridge, Big Ben, etc.

We also made a special trip to Stonehenge.

I have to say, it was amazing and I’m so glad we went there! It’s definitely a big tourist attraction for the area and rightfully so. The entire area has a different feel and you can sense the history; the land simply breathes it. To see it in person was fantastic and I hope to go there again someday with Matt (and kids too if we make it a family trip).

Mommy Musing Monday – Mighty Monster Hunter

Posted on August 19, 2013 Posted in 2013, Baby, Miranda, Musing Monday, Parenting .

It looks like we have a mighty monster hunter in our house!

monster hunter

Around six weeks ago we realized Missy Moo had her first tooth! We suspected a tooth was en route because she was doing a lot more drooling and had entered into that EAT ALL THE THINGS stage… which she continues to rock on a daily basis.

We first discovered the tooth at night, but earlier that day she was nomming constantly on her little knitted monster I had recently made for her (I’ll post about that another day). Clearly she found some comfort teaching her monster the food chain and pecking order in our house.

I managed to get some video of the mighty monster hunter in action…

But fear not! Our darling hunter isn’t just a carnivore. Oh no. She also has a taste for other food groups.

Nom nom. Carrot feet taste awesome!

Carrots are so tasty. Especially their feet!

Mmmm! The new exersaucer at Nana and Poppy's house is yummy and lots of fun!

Stars are yummy. You should try some.

It wasn’t long before the second tooth on the bottom made it’s grand entrance. They’re just so freakin cute! I’m hoping to get a photo at some point if she’ll sit still long enough.

Her top teeth are not far away, but for now she’ll keep nomming on anything she can (including her daddy’s nose when she can get close enough).

I want to read about…

Been there, done that
