The subject line of this post comes from a series of skits on CBC’s This Hour Has 22 Minutes. It involves a mother (actress Mary Walsh) and son (actor Greg Thomey) who provide commentary on the latest political and pop culture topics; all while watching TV. The mother, donning her fuzzy slippers is often seen kicking the son while lying on the couch. She’s not happy about the current program they’re watching and therefore wants to change the channel. To which she demands (while kicking), “Gimme me dat clicker!” I can’t find a clip online, but if anyone else can, please leave a comment!
I’m here, and here, and here and…
There are so many social media channels, tools and places nowadays. It’s hard to keep track. Heck, I want to make this contact page more snazzy and whenever I go to edit I think, “Oh I should had my account on such-and-such account here.”
But when you think about it, are we getting through all the noise? Do you have duplicate followers? I’m sure there are people who you tweet at who also see your Flickr updates and Facebook status updates. And what about that link you posted on Google+? Dont’ forget about that random posted I shared on Tumblr. How about that neat DIY project on Pinterest?! This list goes on…
But wait there’s more!
Just to add to the mix, is Empire Avenue. It’s an interesting concept that I’m trying to get the hang of. You invest in other people (whether you know them or not) and buy shares of their social media worth. I’ve received enough endorsements to have my blog now logged on the site and need to post my authorization code: {EAV:96abd56083521e78}. If you’re curious, my user account is VJAM.
Tick tock. Tick tock.
I’m finding there’s less and less time on the 24 hour clock to dedecate to social media interactions, but they’re also something I value a lot. Whether we’ve met IRL or cyberspace is the only location we’ve crossed paths, I appreciate everyone who I connect with on Teh Interwebz.
Ah the noise!
Are you overwhelmed by the many channels out there? Have you said “enough is enough! I’m done! No more!” Maybe you’ve already done that and have started to leave certain social networks. I’m curious to know if there’s a change starting to trend.
So like Mary Walsh’s character on 22 Minutes, I’m finding there are a lot of channels and I’m not always in love with what I see because something else on may be more entertaining. I may have the urge to grab that clicker.
For now, I’ll still try to keep up where I can. I may not make it to every tweet up and this poor blog may go silent now and then, but I’m doing the best I can to stay connected online and off.
I love it and totally agree. Boy! Imagine if I were 20 years younger! With all the social networks, I would have to quit my job, go on welfare and spend 16 hours a day on the net…seriously!
But I do love connecting with peeps all over and I learn so much.
As for television…hmmmm, have opted for Satelite and pvr and programme all my shows and sit down to watch when I feel like it. Unless of course there is a KHP update or news media for them…lol.
Miss you kiddo:)

Thanks CLR. I love hearing your perspective. :) Technology has changed so much in even just the last 10 years, it’s hard to imagine where we’ll be in another 10 (will I finally get my flying car?!).
I miss you too and am glad to see you’re doing well. :)
