Posted on July 14, 2011 Posted in 2011, Dilbert, Facebook, Social Media .

As usual, another comic full of win from Dilbert. This is from Tuesday July 12, 2011.

Dilbert.com

I’ll confess that I’m not a daily Dilbert devotee (like that alliteration?), but I do visit the site every few weeks and take a few minutes to catch up.

When someone asks about my usage of social media tools, I often receive comments like “Well I’m too busy to waste so much time on stuff like that.” And I have to be honest, it’s getting increasingly annoying. I don’t have time to natter on about your favourite reality TV show (nor to I bother wasting hours watching it), but I’m not getting snarky at you. Sorry, but I’m not interested in the latest cutie that was unfairly was voted off this week.

Despite what you may think, I’m not playing around on Facebook or Twitter (or Google+) all day. When I share something to one of these social media platforms, it’s while I’m researching or getting up-to-date on current events. If I see something interesting, I’ll hit a button on that website that will allow me to post a link to one of my social media pages.

Ironically, it probably takes you longer to read my post, click on the link and then evaluate whether or not you want to take in all of the information on that page. So maybe I’m not the one wasting more time…

Ministry of Silly Walks

Posted on July 12, 2011 Posted in 2011, Silly .

I’m pretty sure this is one of my favourite Monty Python skits.

While I didn’t grow up watching Monty Python day in and day out like my husband, I’ve always been a fan and have seen some of the classic movies and skits. But I certainly haven’t seen everything… perhaps that should be a goal over the next year or two — to see everything Python related?!

If you’re into British humour, then I imagine you may also like Are You Being Served and other shows along those lines.

Do you have a favourite Monty Python skit or movie? If this sort of humour isn’t your think, what sort of humour can always put a smile on your face?

Jedi Geekery

Posted on July 9, 2011 Posted in 2011, Sci fi .

Jedi at work A sure sign of true love: a couple that can geek out together sci-fi style.

While Halloween isn’t exactly around the corner, I recently came across this photo and it seemed appropriate to post. It was this time last year that Matt was talking about ordering one of the Force FX lightsabers. My only request was that if he was going to get one, that it only made sense for me to also own one. I mean how silly would it have looked if he was running around all on his own with a lightsaber and no one to mock battle with?

It was that purchase that put us on the road to our Halloween costumes for 2010. I’m fairly certain we’ll use them again. Not sure if I’ll wear mine again this year or save it for another year. But either way, our lightsabers are on display year round in our games room.

What’s you favourite costume? Was it something that was for Halloween or another occasion? Maybe there’s something you wore as a child that you’ll never forget? Here in Newfoundland, I remember having to wear my winter jacket over my Halloween costume more than once due to a sudden cold snap or unexpected snow. Ha ha.

Note: this post is also in honour of my niece who was Darth Vader for Halloween last year. I couldn’t have been prouder to hear how much she loves Star Wars. Now I just need to get both of my nieces into other sci fi goodies like Star Trek and Stargate.

Oh Canada

Posted on July 1, 2011 Posted in 2011, Canada Day .

On Canada Day, I’ve taken time to remind my fellow Canadians that this is a day of memorial and mourning in Newfoundland and Labrador. No, this isn’t dark humour or an implication that your eastern sibling isn’t happy to be part of our great country. It’s because during World War I on July 1, 1916, The Battle of the Somme at Beaumont Hamel began.

But because I’m in the grande old United States of America for Canada Day, it seems only fitting to share this Someecards.

HAPPY CANADA DAY!

Flip, flip hooray (the sequal)

Posted on June 28, 2011 Posted in 2011, Family, Food, Fundraising, NL .

NOTE: I originally started this post back on March 22. Its about time I took it out of draft status.

If you haven’t read my original post about flipper dinner, you may want to check it out before reading the rest of this post…

On March 1, 2011 Matt and I once again went to a Flipper Dinner hosted by the Compass Shrine (who are part of the Mazol Shriners) where my dad is a member. Instead of having the event at the Mount Pearl Reid Theatre, we went to the Freemasons’ Hall in Mount Pearl.
