One year ago

Dear Missy Moo,

It was one year ago that after being woken up several times throughout the night, I was starting to guess that I was possibly in the early stages of labour.

So what’s a girl to do? Well, I drove Daddy to a yoga class and then went on to a scheduled massage I had that morning. My massage therapist was able to confirm that my back spasms (which was actually back labour), was likely a sign of baby on the way.

Since my appointment finished before Daddy’s yoga class ended, I of course went to Shoppers to pick up a few things… and actually had to stop and lean on something a couple of times. Ha ha – whoops! When I did pick him up, I suggested he drive home since my contractions at this point were around 40-30 minutes apart and I probably shouldn’t have been driving all morning.

And so it began. We took it easy for the rest of the day and didn’t go to the hospital until 7 p.m. (and I’m so glad we stayed home as long as possible!). It was at 3:27 a.m on Sunday, February 24th that you were born.

I remember so much from that day and I can laugh about a lot and think fondly of other things. You’re not supposed to brag or talk about having a good pregnancy (which I did) and it’s basically a cardinal sin to admit if you had a good labour/birthing experience (which I also did). But I did… we did; you were awesome little girl.

I don’t think I’ll ever post the nitty gritty details, but if anyone ever wants to hear about your arrival, I don’t mind sharing the ups and downs of that day. :) It was kind of a big deal for us because you were the prize at the end of it all.

The boss was calling

EMPLOYEE REPORT:
Last night my current boss decided to call an emergency meeting.

It seems she was rather upset with some internal documents and needed them dealt with right away. Having a passion for crisis communications, I knew I wouldn’t let her down.

After some troubleshooting with my team member, we set into motion what we thought would help de-escalate the situation.

Afterwards, the boss asked me to stay behind to discuss some internal restructuring she was recently made aware of.

Mommy Musing Monday – It’s Curtains for you Little Miss

Posted on February 17, 2014 by Virginia Posted in 2014, Baby, Musing Monday, Parenting .

Anyone who has seen Missy Moo in the last 3-4 months is likely aware of the fact that she is this close to walking. She can balance herself in all sorts of ways and she even tries to climb on things. I caught her the other day balancing on one foot on this dinosaur toy…

Apparently the dinosaur’s tail is great for standing on…

I’ve been warned that once she actually starts walking, we’re in trouble. She already managed to get into everything and it will only increase ten-fold. The other day, I put herself in her pack ‘n play while I did some things in the kitchen. She was in an extra mobile mood and I needed her contained. I was working away and looked over to see what she was doing. “Huh. That’s odd. I don’t remember putting a while blanket in here with her… wait a minute!

Caught in the act

My little ghost so very pleased with herself.

Needless to say, the pack ‘n play is no longer as close to the drapes and curtains.

It’s an understatement to suggest that she continues to keep us on our toes… and she’s not even fully walking/running yet!

I’ve started calling her Monkey Face because of the things she’s trying to climb or manages to get into. I should have some examples to share soon. Stay tuned.

Next week: One year – how did the past 12 months fly by so quickly?!

Mommy Musing Monday – sniffles and sneezes

Posted on February 3, 2014 by Virginia Posted in 2014, Baby, Musing Monday, NL, Parenting .

It’s been a busy few days. Not because of social engagements or volunteer commitments (although both are often enough to keep us going). No, instead we’ve been dealing with teething (of the molar variety) and some sort of viral thing that’s left Missy Moo feeling pretty miserable.

Mommy Musing Monday – Do you Know the Muffin Mom

Posted on January 27, 2014 by Virginia Posted in 2014, Baby, Food, Musing Monday, Parenting .

I’m going to try and post more recipes that I’m cooking/baking for Missy Moo. Most of the recipes are perfectly fine for us adults to have, the only real difference I’ve noticed is that they often have less sugar and while there are often some tasty flavours, there isn’t anything too crazy or spicy.

For the most part, we give little miss some of whatever we’re eating. But on days when we’re having spicy Thai curry or something she may not be ready to sample, we’re trying out some new things. Oh and don’t for a minute think that I’m making everything she eats. There are some great pre-made stuff that’s convenient and not completely terrible (as in, there aren’t a lot of of preservatives and there are littler or no chemicals). So if you’re not making things for your little one, don’t feel bad. I’m confident it will not traumatize them and leave them full of hostility when they’re adults.
