Mommy Musing Monday – Nom Nom Food!

Posted on June 24, 2013 Posted in 2013, Baby, Food, Miranda, Musing Monday, Parenting .

It’s interesting to hear everyone give their opinion so quickly when it comes to discussing someone else’s baby.
Don’t give a baby cereal before they’re six months!

You shouldn’t put rice cereal in their bottle… they might choke!

Breast is best (so in other words, starve your child you horrible mother you!… just kidding. I’m not that bitter!)

But shouldn’t we remind ourselves that every baby is different? Maybe infant led weaning is best for your child. Or maybe they want to start using a spoon right away. Or the just grab onto it like Missy Moo will do if I try and let her play with some cereal sans bottle. Or maybe your baby has other plans and just hasn’t given you the official memo yet.

Missy Moo has already made it clear what sort of food she wants to eat…

Nom nom ribs

Ribs are yummy!

Don’t worry, we haven’t really feed her ribs… yet. But it’s only a matter of time. I mean really, the poor thing doesn’t have any teeth so the best she can do is hope to gum them a bit. It really wouldn’t be fair to expect her to make a good meal out of ribs just yet. But she definitely enjoyed licking the bone, so that’s a good sign. Ha!

There’s also the running joke with family and friends who try to get a reaction out of Matt and I when they attempt to feed our little one food (cake, fries, etc.) or drink (beer, wine, etc.) before her time. But we just laugh and say, “No, not yet!”

You really can’t take yourself too seriously when you have a baby. They tend to throw it back into your face. And sometimes they literally throw it up back at you. Yes, after answering the door and greeting the UPS guy in my PJs with my hair in fits, I’m quickly abandoning any shame I may have had left.

But back to feeding a baby…
In the end, you – the mom, the father, the guardian, or whoever you are – knows what’s best for the little one.

And even if you have no clue as to what you’re doing, that’s OK! Cause the rest of us new moms have no idea what we’re doing either! We’re just winging it (Mmmmm, wings…) and hoping for the best!

P.S. Happy four months to our little miss! I can’t believe how quickly the time is fly past us!

Mommy Musing Monday – See You Spoon

Posted on June 17, 2013 Posted in Baby, Food, Miranda, Musing Monday, Parenting .

About a month ago, I saw our family doctor and talked to him about the fact that Missy Moo was eating a lot (as in wanting a 5 oz bottle every two hours some days), yet was sleeping through the night (around 6-9 hours). I was in NO WAY complaining, but wanted to ask him if we should possibly try giving her some cereal to help her increased daytime appetite.

He recommended that we start putting some rice cereal in her bottles twice a day. We currently give her  a teaspoon of cereal with some extra water in her bottle twice a day.

Mommy Musing Monday – Adamantium Toenails

Posted on June 10, 2013 Posted in 2013, Baby, Family, Miranda, Musing Monday, Parenting .

For those of you not versed in comic book lore, Wolverine from the X-Men is Canadian.

Sometimes I wonder if either my family or Matt‘s are distantly related to Wolverine because I’m pretty sure our daughter’s toenails are made out of a diluted version of indestructible adamantium*!

Mommy Musing Monday – hats off folks

Posted on June 3, 2013 Posted in 2013, Baby, Miranda, Musing Monday, Parenting .

As a knitter, I have to admit that making hats is often fun. They’re not usually hard (or you can avoid the really hard patterns if you want, cause there are so many different options out there) and they can knit up pretty quick.

Baby hats are even better because they’re small and you often want to use nice soft yarn. Non-knitted baby hats are just as cute cause they’re so little!

Before Missy Moo was born, I received a number of hats for her. My mother-in-law is a fantastic knitter and she did some very lovely hats and some with sweaters to match. Other hats were given by friends and family. Babies tend to lose a lot of heat from their heads and often lack a full head of hair, so having them strut around in a hat seems logical, right?

My daughter feels otherwise. Here are three different reactions to hats…

Mommy Musing Monday – Formula Fail

Posted on May 20, 2013 Posted in 2013, Baby, Food, Miranda, Musing Monday, Parenting .

I’ve mentioned before that I’m formula feeding Missy Moo. I tried and tried to breastfeed, but C’est la vie, it wasn’t mean to be. End of story.

While there are lots of fun and silly stories about moms who have had awkward situations when breast feeding (read: leaking, baby trying to latch onto someone else, etc.), there are still misadventures for us formula feeding mommies.

Like every mom, you try to be on the ball. On deck and awake at all hours whenever necessary.

But sometimes when you haven’t had your cup of coffee this happens…

Which also results in this…

And then you have an area of your kitchen where it looks like the night after some junkies forgot to clean up after a night of blow.

But at least the kitchen smelled nice. Have you ever noticed that? Formula smells pretty sweet until you mix it with water. Then it’s chalk full of iron-smelling goodness smelliness. And sadly, when the formula is barfed up, it doesn’t smell nice and sweet. Which reminds me of a time when my childhood dog Muffin ate a bunch of coconut and when she barfed it up, the result smelled like cookies… but that’s a story for another day never.

I want to read about…

Been there, done that
