Ah Dilbert. You have a way with words…
Category Archives: Dilbert
I’ve had colleagues, friends and family call me a social media guru, ninja, expert, etc. In fact, I’ve had a post/rant in draft form for months and was inspired by today’s Dilbert comic to finally move it from draft to publish.
Dilbert continues to nail it with great comics these days. This is the daily for today July 19, 2011.
How many Twitter followers do I have? The short answer is too many. There are times I don’t feel as engaged as I would like to be with some of the people and organizations I follow. But on the flip side of that, amongst my many followers/ those I follow I do have some very valuable relationships that have been built over time. The key to that last statement is that many relationships have been build with time and proactive effort.
As usual, another comic full of win from Dilbert. This is from Tuesday July 12, 2011.
I’ll confess that I’m not a daily Dilbert devotee (like that alliteration?), but I do visit the site every few weeks and take a few minutes to catch up.
When someone asks about my usage of social media tools, I often receive comments like “Well I’m too busy to waste so much time on stuff like that.” And I have to be honest, it’s getting increasingly annoying. I don’t have time to natter on about your favourite reality TV show (nor to I bother wasting hours watching it), but I’m not getting snarky at you. Sorry, but I’m not interested in the latest cutie that was unfairly was voted off this week.
Despite what you may think, I’m not playing around on Facebook or Twitter (or Google+) all day. When I share something to one of these social media platforms, it’s while I’m researching or getting up-to-date on current events. If I see something interesting, I’ll hit a button on that website that will allow me to post a link to one of my social media pages.
Ironically, it probably takes you longer to read my post, click on the link and then evaluate whether or not you want to take in all of the information on that page. So maybe I’m not the one wasting more time…
After meeting me, the average person isn’t surprised to learn that I work in communications or that I’m someone who enjoys public relations and media relations…
Perhaps it has something to do with not getting ride of that thing I have. LOL
I <3 Dilbert. There have some recent comics on social media that I’ll be posting up here and commenting on. Perhaps on the weekend.
