My name is Virginia Middleton. I’m a Newfoundlander. I work in communications. I like to knit, run and take photos (but not all at the same time). Oh and I absolutely love social media, especially if it means connecting with people near and far. I’m also excepting my first child in February 2013! Matt and I are so excited to be expanding our home by two feet very soon.
Now it’s your turn to introduce yourself.
…
Oh, shy are we? OK, here’s some more information about who I am…
Click here for quick view of my professional bio.
In September 2010, I moved back to my hometown of St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador. Prior to the big move, I was living in Toronto, Ont. where I was working within the public relations, media relations and communications industry since 2005.
Originally from St. John’s, NL, I have a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science (Law & Society minor) and a After working for the St. John’s Fog Devils (a Quebec Major Junior Hockey Team previously located in St. John’s, NL) and enjoying some time in the PR agency world, it seemed fitting that I focus my energy and enthusiasm within the non-profit sector with Kids Help Phone. I joined the Canadian charity’s Marketing and Communications team in 2007 and loved working closely with the professional counsellors who help so many kids and teen every day. As of July 2010, look fondly at my time there, but have moved on to other opportunities.Certificate in Criminology from Memorial University of Newfoundland and graduated from Centennial College in Toronto from the Corporate Communications and Public Relations Post Graduate Program in 2005.
In September 2010, I started a new position at Memorial University as a Communications Co-ordinator for the Faculty of Medicine. There are so many great things happening over the in faculty and the medical world that it will not doubt be an exciting time for myself and colleagues. We have a new building and expansion happening in 2013 and have leading research in many areas including life-saving genetic discoveries.
Known amongst friend and family as a keener with all things related to social media, I’m eager to learn new strategies and tools within the social media world that can help non-profits and organizations advance and engage with its many audiences. While living in the Big Smoke, I found myself often looking east nostalgically remembering my childhood on “the Rock”. As someone who is proud of her culture, background and upbringing, it wasn’t always easy to establish myself as an individual and toss aside the stereotypes that often popped up. No matter what anyone says, I am not ashamed to call myself a Newfie.
When not online or attending tweet ups and meet ups, my hobbies include knitting (which I often tweets about it), photography, and running. I’ll also confess that I know far too much about Star Trek and science fiction in general.
So enjoy your stay here, speak up, join a conversation and don’t forget to visit my contact page if you’d like to connect further. And please don’t forget that opinions expressed here are my own and do not reflect my employer.
