Who am I?
I am Virginia Middleton and currently live in Toronto, Ont. where I have been working within the public relations, media relations and communications industry officially since 2005. Originally from Newfoundland & Labrador, I have a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a Certificate in Criminology from Memorial University and graduated from Centennial College in Toronto from the Corporate Communications and Public Relations Post Graduate Program in 2005.
After working for the St. John’s Fog Devils (a Quebec Major Junior Hockey Team previously located in St. John’s, NL) and enjoying some time in the PR agency world, it seemed fitting that I focus my energy and enthusiasm within the non-profit sector with Kids Help Phone. I joined the Canadian charity’s Marketing and Communications team in 2007 and loved working closely with the professional counsellors who help so many kids and teen every day. As of July 2010, look fondly at my time there, but have moved on to other opportunities.
As I spend my days in “the Big Smoke”, I look east and nostalgically remember my childhood on “the Rock”. While being proud of my culture and background, I’m trying to establish myself as an individual and toss aside the stereotypes I encounter… yet I am not ashamed to call myself a Newfie.
Known amongst friend and family as a keener with all things related to social media, I’m eager to learn new strategies and tools within the social media world that can help non-profits and organizations advance and engage with its many audiences.
When not online or attending tweet ups and meet ups, my hobbies include knitting (which I often tweets about it), photography, and running. I’ll also confess that I know far too much about Star Trek and science fiction in general.
