Since there was no update last week, I’m going to share a two part post today that has a rather obvious theme.
As some of you may know, our little Missy Moo has been teething hardcore. At nine months old, she already has eight teeth!
Due to this, our daughter constantly chews all the things…. Including her crib.
Yes her crib. Her brand new crib that was hundreds of dollars and is convertible so that it can be a double bed in the future.
Now I’m sure you’re thinking “Big deal. All babies chew. A few bite marks isn’t a big deal.” but feast your eyes on this…
And still more evidence of our daughter’s savage crib chewing. The photos really are more for you to see the teeth/chew marks. It wood is actually a nice dark cherry colour.
So what’s a mom to do? Well first off I freaked out a little; not at her, but I immediately called Matt (as if he was going to be able to do something from work).
I thought about getting some fleece or cutting up a blanket and trying to use Velcro tape to try and stick on something that she could chew without damaging the wood… but then I decided that someone else must have created something, so why reinvent the wheel?
Getting one of those little plastic crib rail covers wasn’t going to work because the crib’s sides are too wide. But luckily, the Gummi Rail came to the rescue! I did my searches and found that I could get the best deal from Snuggle Bugz (which is a Canadian company, so that’s a bonus).
For only $20, I really wish I had thought of getting this stuff sooner. It was ridiculously easy to stick on (but I will say that it’s best to have two people do it like the instructions suggest). And to remove it, you just need a hair dryer and some patience. One box of it was enough to do that long edge of the crib and I’m now thinking I may want to get another one to do the sides, because apparently they’re looking pretty tasty these days. You can also get the Gummi Rail in an extra wide version.
And how does Missy Moo feel about this modification to her crib, well see for yourself…
I’m completely serious when I say this is possibly one of the best baby items out there. I really do wish I had bought it sooner. If I know someone who has a baby that’s doing a lot of chewing, I’ll definitely be recommending they get some Gummi Rail!
So what should you do if your child is chewing constantly, but isn’t in her crib. Well that’s my next post…
